From the time when the college game was the highest level of football, comes this 1904 Princeton versus Cornell program. Dated Oct. 29, 1904 on the front cover, this ancient publication predates the formal founding of the Ivy League by a half-century, a conference joined by both teams in 1954. "Pop" Warner had returned to his alma mater for a second stint as Cornell's head coach in 1904 and led the Big Red to a 7-3 record. The first of Cornell's three losses came in this game against Princeton, which was coached by Art Hillebrand to a record of 8-2. Seen in this program are team photographs, rosters, and individual shots of Cornell captain James Lynah and Princeton captain W. L. Foulke. Another notable for Princeton is 1904 All-American James Cooney. The spine of this scarce gameday souvenir has been neatly repaired with tape, and 4" x 1-1/2" triangle has been clipped from the back cover. Otherwise, this program remains sturdy and attractive.
