Description

Capture a bit of ancient boxing history, with the acquisition of this Tommy Burns signed postcard with handwritten note. At the time of this correspondence, Burns was the reigning heavyweight champion of the world. Fighting with great frequency, the Canadian prizefighter defended his crown against all comers, including Englishman Gunner Moir, who is mentioned in Burns' writing.

Seen on the front of this Tuck's Post real photo postcard, is the famous Marble Arch in London's Hyde Park. Burns was in London to take on Moir on December 2, 1907, as detailed in his note to Oakland Tribune sports editor Eddie Smith, who was also a boxing referee of note, and an amateur pugilist. Burns' writing and signature remain distinct more than a century after the application. A London W. cancellation postmark located above Burns' note is dated "Nov 4 07".
