Description

Atlantean royals Namora and Byrrah surface in this 12/54 Atlas Comics Sub-Mariner Comics #37 issue. Without foreign forces to fight after the conclusion of WWII, the super-hero genre took a nearly lethal hit in popularity. Timely Comics rebranded as Atlas in the early 1950s, and in 1954 the publisher jumped full on into the Cold War, with a revival of its leading super-heroes. Though short-lived, this revival saw some thrilling issues hit the newsstands, including this compelling Sub-Mariner comic. Joined in this issue by his cousins Namora and Byrrah, Namor is seen roughing up some Soviet seamen on the front cover. CGC has rated this prized comic 1.8, Cream to Off-White Pages. CGC has graded less than 100 copies of this issue #37, testifying to the short supply of this late-Golden Age treasure. Label notes are "Bill Everett story, Bill Everett and Mort Lawrence art, Joe Maneely cover. Namora, Betty Dean and Byrrah appearance.".
