Lot # 1458: 1954 Atlas Comics Captain America Comics #78 Last Issue - CGC 3.5

All good things must come to an end, and so it was with this 9/54 Atlas Comics Captain America Comics #78 issue. Founded under the Timely banner in 1941, this venerable title was put on pause in 1950 and then enjoyed a brief run under the publisher's rebranded Atlas banner in 1954. This #78 issue was the last one of the Golden Age run and Captain America wasn't seen again until ten years later, when he was thawed from the ice in Avengers #4, under the publisher's second rebranding as Marvel Comics. As a sign of the times, Cap was presented as "Captain America...Commie Smasher" in the 1954 revival, as seen on the header of the offered "Cold War" era issue. This nicely preserved example has earned a 3.5, Cream to Off-White Pages rating from CGC. Label notes are "Hank Chapman story, Dick Ayers art, John Romita cover and art. Human Torch backup story.
