Description

Join Namor the Sub-Mariner for a polar bear plunge, when you lay claim to this exciting 6/54 Atlas Sub-Mariner Comics #34 issue. Sandwiched between the 1940s Timely and 1960s-present Marvel banners, Atlas was the brand name for the current Marvel Comics line during the 1950s. When WWII ended, the much-needed morale boost derived from super-heroes doing their part in the war effort waned. Under the Atlas banner, the prolific publisher took a shot at returning its super-hero characters to prominence, circa 1954-1955.

These mid-1950s Atlas super-hero issues rank as tough finds generally and should be considered buy on sight targets. Set your sights on this handsome Sub-Mariner issue, which sports vibrant colors, and a fairly solid spine. These attributes have earned this late Golden Age comic a CGC grade of 6.0, Off-White Pages, a rating that is more than satisfactory for books from this period. The cover scene is a thriller, with Namor coming to the rescue of his cousin Namora, who is trussed up in bondage over icy northern waters, while Subby dukes it out with a crew of Soviet seamen, in a classic representation of Cold War propaganda. Also found in this vintage issue, is a back-up story starring the Human Torch. Label notes are "Bill Everett and Hank Chapman story, Bill Everett and Dick Ayers art. Namora appearance. Human Torch backup story.".
