Description

The sun was shining in Dodgertown, as the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers were preparing for a historic season. From this season of deliverance and the following campaign, comes this circa 1955-1956 Dodgers practice jersey and pants selection (6). After years of coming close with no cigar, “Dem Bums” blossomed into “The Boys of Summer”, when the 1955 Dodgers finally won their first and only World Series championship of the franchise’s Brooklyn tenure. This super-talented team followed up by winning the NL pennant in 1956, and the period stands as a high point in Dodgers history. These authentic gray flannel uniforms are fantastic relics of the Dodgers memorable 1955 and 1956 campaigns. All report in pleasing state, with ample signs of authentic use/wear, and identifiable characteristics.

Featured are:

Jersey number “57” with a Rawlings “Hall of Fame” factory label on the front-left tail, has a size “44” label adjacent, and the name “Hamric” is embroidered below the label in Dodgers blue stitching. A small tag inside the collar is well-worn, with indeterminate details. Stains on the front appear to be either tobacco juice, or blood. The felt patches on the front and back show exceptional quality. Bert Hamric appeared in two regular season games for the 1955 Dodgers and spent most of the season with their St. Paul Saints AA affiliate.

Jersey number “55” with a Rawlings “Hall of Fame” factory label on the front-left tail, has a size “42” label adjacent, and the name “Harris” is embroidered below the label in Dodgers blue stitching. Wear is light, and the patches are excellent. Bill Harris pitched for the Dodgers AAA Montreal Royals and AA Fort Worth Cats affiliates in 1955.

Jersey number “3” has a Dodge Davis Genuine Flannel label inside the collar, with an adjacent size “38” tag. Small staining on the edge of the collar interior appears to blood. The overall integrity of this jersey is outstanding. Dodgers high level minor league players who wore number 3 in 1955, are Johnny Bucha of the Royals, and Joe Baliga of the Saints, though a positive connection is not established.

Pants with “Bessent 56” plate below the interior waistband. Located on the interior waistband are from left to right, a laundry instructions tag, a Rawlings “Hall of Fame” factory label with an adjacent “Set 1 1956” tag, and a size “34” indicator. Abundant sweat staining is seen on the interior band. The left knee area is somewhat threadbare, and a spot on the right side of the seat has a stitch repair. Bessent went 8-1 out of the bullpen for the Dodgers in 1955, and he made 38 appearances in 1956.

Pants with “Thompson 56” plate below the interior waistband. Located on the interior waistband are from left to right, a laundry instructions tag, a Rawlings “Hall of Fame” factory label with an adjacent “Set 1 1956” tag, and a size “36” indicator. Abundant sweat staining is seen on the interior band, and stains are also noted on both legs. Tim Thompson enjoyed a fine season with the Saints in 1955, but went to the Kansas City Athletics organization in 1956.

Pants with the numbers “6” and “56” written inside the waistband, and also a blotted-out number to the left of the 6. Labels are from left to right “laundry instruction, Rawlings “Hall Fame” factory label with an adjacent “Set I 1955” tag, and a size “38” indicator. Heavy staining is noted around the interior and exterior of the waistband, and light staining is noted on both legs. Key star Carl Furillo wore number 6 for the Dodgers throughout the 1950s, though a positive connection is not established.
