A key figure in the Philadelphia Phillies first ever World Series championship season is recalled, with this Bobby Wine pro model coach's bat. Dating from the early 1980s, this Louisville Slugger signature model bat shows extensive signs of use/wear. There's a 3" x 1-1/2" surface chip out of the barrel back, along with a variety of contact marks, bat rack streaks, and grain swelling up and down the barrel. There's also a light coating of tape adhesive residue on the handle. Wine's jersey number "7" is written on the knob over the impressed model number "K100", and a facsimile of his signature is burned into the barrel.
A true baseball lifer, the slick-fielding, light-hitting Wine was the Phillies primary shortstop throughout much of the 1960s. Upon retirement as a player, Wine joined the Phillies coaching staff in 1972, serving in that position through 1983. As bench coach to manager Dallas Green in 1980, Wine was an integral part of the Fightin' Phils marvelous run to their first ever World Series triumph.
