The first catcher to hit 20 home runs, Gabby Hartnett was considered the greatest catcher in history until the arrival of Johnny Bench. As player/manager of the Chicago Cubs, the Hall of Famer led his team to the 1938 World Series.
This 1938 World Series program, Chicago at New York, is in Excellent condition. The middle scorecard section is unscored. The program features 4 pages of composite photos with “floating heads” of the Chicago Cubs and 4 pages of the New York Yankees. The inside front cover has a photo of Leo “Gabby” Hartnett and it is signed beside the photo, “Gabby” Hartnett (“8-9”). Other Cubs pictured include Dizzy Dean, Tony Lazzeri, Stan Hack and Billy Herman. Yankees photos include manager Joseph McCarthy, Tom Henrich, Joe DiMaggio, Frank Crosetti and “The Iron Man,” Lou Gehrig.
