Lot # 27: Satchel Paige Single-Signed Baseball with "Kansas City, Mo." Inscription - JSA

Satchel Paige will always be one of the most legendary names in Negro League baseball. Paige, who enjoyed time in the Major Leagues following almost two decades in the Negro Leagues, was a rare talent acknowledged contemporaneously as one of the best to ever play the game. Paige has signed this Official National League (Ford Frick) baseball on the side panel, adding the inscription "Kansas City Mo" underneath his name. This is one of only a few examples with an inscription representing Paige's team, the Kansas City Monarchs, we have ever seen. Vintage signed Paige signatures are scarce. When it comes to extreme scarcities, condition is often a passing afterthought, and that holds true with the offered example, which presents well save for a tiny abrasion affecting the beginning of Paige's name. The signature and inscription is boldly placed on the baseball, which exhibits moderate toning as well as some light staining and surface imperfections, which do not otherwise impact the signed area.
