Lot # 1433: 1942 Whitey Kurowski St. Cardinals National League Champions Pennant

Scarce pennant commemorating Reading, Pennsylvania's hometown hero, and St. Louis Cardinals infielder, George "Whitey" Kurowski. Playing nine seasons with the Cardinals, Kurowski was a five-time All Star and a three-time World Series champion. Following his playing days, he was active as a coach and manager in the minor leagues for 18 years. Dated 1942 (the year after his Major League debut and the year of his first World Series championship), the pennant measures 7.75 inches high and 23.5 inches long. It features an image of a batter and catcher at Sportsman's Park and was likely produced to cheer on Kurowski and the Cardinals in the World Series after they clinched the 1942 National League pennant. The pennant presents in overall Very Good condition and displays moderate wrinkling, most noticeably on the reverse, and light crazing to the lettering. There is slight fraying at the tip of the pennant, which has resulted in a small piece missing. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
