Description

A very interesting selection is presented for your consideration, in the form of this 1770-1923 paper currency bundle (12). Spanning the late Colonial era through WWI, this fascinating assortment is loaded with desirable notes.

Featured are:

March 1, 1770 Maryland $1 Indented Bill hand-signed by Annapolis Mayor Robert Couden and High Sheriff of Anne Arundel County John Clapham. This ancient bill is split down the vertical center into two pieces but otherwise shows Fine details. The obverse states this Colonial note was payable in London, or in gold and silver in the amount of 4 shillings and six-pence. The legend “Tis Death to Counterfeit” is printed on reverse side top border, followed by “Printed by A.C. and W. Green”. Anne Catherine Green is cited as the only woman credited with printing colonial currency in America.

December 7, 1775 Maryland One-Third Dollar bill, payable in sterling silver at a rate of four shillings and six-pence, Gd. This Colonial note is hand-signed by James Brice and John Duckett, but only portions of their signature are visible.

April 6, 1863 Confederate States of America fifty cents fractional note with Ro. Tyler and El. Elmore signatures and red serial number 60996, Fr.

February 17, 1864 Confederate States of America $5 note with M. Black and C. White signatures, Vg details with deference to a tape repair.

1899 Black Eagle Silver Certificate large notes (2) both with Speelman/White signatures, serial numbers are V80362332A and H76833004A, Fn+, Fn.

1917 $1 Legal Tender large note with Speelman/White signatures and serial number T62308880A, Vf.

1917 $2 Legal Tender large note with Speelman/White signatures and serial number B93882302A, Fn.

1923 $1 Silver Certificate large notes (2) both with Speelman/White signatures, serial numbers are H51655245D and K36335736B, both Vf+.

1928 $1 Funny Back Silver Certificates (2) both with Woods/Mills signatures, serial numbers are F35595484B and G65410429B, both Fn.
