The famous Flowing Hair dollar was the first circulating silver dollar type issued by the fledgling United States Mint, which was formally established in 1792. This ancient treasure had just a two-year run from 1794 to 1795, before the Draped Bust dollar was introduced in 1795. If you're counting, the 1795 Flowing Hair dollar stands as the second silver dollar in American history. The original mintage for the 1795 coin was 160,295 pieces. PCGS has just returned this long-secluded coin from grading submission, with the description PCGS Genuine, Plugged - VG Detail, Flowing Hair, 2 Leaves. The plugged identification refers to a condition noted at 12 o'clock on the obverse, where a hole was filled long ago. The "2 Leaves" identification indicates this coin is one of two major varieties for the date, one variety with two leaves extending up from the olive branch curving around the Eagle's talons on the reverse, and the other variety with three leaves at the same position.
