Lot # 1602: 1970-1972 Frank Robinson World Series Era Game-Used Bat - PSA/DNA GU 9

Level up your lumber collection with the addition of this Frank Robinson game-used Louisville Slugger signature model bat. It was high times for Robinson and his Baltimore Orioles teammates, when he smashed the offerings of opposing pitchers around and often out of AL ballparks, with this 35" war club in hand. When Robinson joined the Orioles in 1966, he paid off immediately, as a driving force in the long-suffering franchise's first ever World Series championship season. Earl Weaver took over as skipper midway through the 1968 season and promptly steered the Orioles to three consecutive World Series appearances from 1969 to 1971, winning the franchise's second championship in 1970. While the offered bat has a stated labeling period of 1970-1972, it certainly saw most if not all of its service while Robinson was with Baltimore in 1970-1971. The uniform number "20" he wore during his Orioles tenure is written on the knob. When Robinson moved on to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1972, he changed his uniform number to 36. Impressed into the knob is the model number R141 and the number "35" is written to the left, indicating the bat's weight. Burned into the barrel is a Robinson facsimile signature, between the words "Genuine" and "Louisville Slugger." Excellent signs of authentic use are seen up and down this vintage bat, which was wielded by one of the game's elite Hall of Fame sluggers, likely with great success during pennant-winning and championship runs. Slight grain swelling is noted on the back barrel, along with contact marks, baseball stitch impressions, cleat indentations and green and red bat rack streaks. The upper handle area bears a light coating of pine tar, and the bat is free of cracks. The accompanying Full LOA from PSA/DNA reports a game-use grade of GU 9 for this highly desirable gamer.
