Description

Fans packed the Baltimore city streets on April 15, 1954, to join the player parade to Memorial Stadium for the Orioles first opening game. Send up a cheer for this program from the Orioles inaugural home opener. Clint Courtney hit the first ever Orioles home run in the third inning, and Vern Stephens followed with another solo homer in the fourth. Pitcher Bob Turley went the full nine, recording nine strikeouts, in a 3-1 Orioles win against the Chicago White Sox. Scored for this historic game, the offered program reports in fairly solid Vg condition. Turley has signed firmly on the front cover, and he has included the inscription "Opening Game 4-15-54". The fan who originally owned this proud gameday souvenir has written a notation along the right edge of the cover, which reads "opening game April 15 sat down 3rd base line, played Chicago and won".
