Description

Alfred E. Smith was the popular progressive leader of the 1920s. He was Governor of New York and the Democratic nominee for President in 1928. He lost the election to Herbert Hoover in a landslide, mostly because he was the first ever Catholic candidate. He has signed (“8-9”) this typewritten letter of sympathy on 7 ½ x 9 ¾ stationery from “State of New York Executive Chamber, Albany” dated December 28, 1920, and addressed to Mr. Ashley T. Cole.

 

Richard Nixon had exited public life when he signed this typewritten letter on 7 ½ x 10 stationery with “Richard Nixon - La Casa Pacifica - San Clemente, California” heading dated December 14th, 1979, and addressed to Mr. Danny E. Marshall, thanking him for his friendship and support. The signature is a nice (“9-10”). It is accompanied by the original envelope a Richard Nixon facsimile signature.
