Description

A scarce treasure surfaces with the presentation of this 1965 Baltimore Colts advertising sign. Framed to overall dimensions of 15-1/2” x 18” in a 99% UV conservation grade frame, this vintage promoter is a die cut cardboard sign featuring the classic Colts logo, a home game schedule, and information regarding ticket sales at Memorial Stadium.

1965 was a solid year for the Colts, who finished tied for first in the Western Division with a record of 10-3-1. Unfortunately, they ran into Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers in a special playoff game. The Packers also boasted a 10-3-1 record, forcing the playoff game at Lambeau Field, where they eked out a 13-10 overtime win over Colts. The Packers are listed on the offered sign as the Colts final opponent of the regular season.

This arresting sign would have looked comfortably at home in a local Charm City tavern, a busy diner, or any public space where avid Colts fans congregated. Moderate creasing is noted on the horse’s tail and flank, and near the bottom-left corner. Otherwise, this visual delight remains broadly appealing with bold colors and a clean surface.
