The ace of the "Gashouse Gang" pitching staff serves up a pleasing signature, with this "Dizzy" Dean single-signed 1934 Associated Press World Series photograph. Pictured with Dean (HOF, d.1974), is "Schoolboy" Rowe. Dean was the leading pitcher of the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals with a stellar record of 30-7, and Rowe topped the Detroit Tigers staff with a record of 24-8. With two wins each in the 1934 Fall Classic, Dizzy Dean and his brother Paul accounted for all four of the wins needed by the Cardinals to clinch their World Series victory. Despite some minor ink breaks, Dean's signature remains bold and appealing. Though the AP credit stamp on the back has been blacked, the prominent news service has been identified as the source of this antique photograph. The date stamp "Oct 3, 1934" remains visible on the reverse, indicating this shot was taken before the first game of the 1934 World Series. Also seen on the reverse are handwritten identifications, with "Schoolboy Rowe & Dizzy Dean World Series 1934", and "1934 World Series". Wear is moderate, and the photograph remains clean and glossy, with plenty of display appeal.
