Description

Financial wizards make a strong move, to claim this 1915 World Champion Boston Red Sox stock certificate. Dated June 10, 1915, this Boston American League Base-Ball Club certificate was made to Boston Globe publisher and Massachusetts politician Charles H. Taylor, in the amount of eighty-one shares.

A raised corporate seal at bottom centers two signatures by Joseph Lannin, one as Treasurer at left, and the other as President at right. Lannin's signatures are distinct and the certificate is crisp with two fairly unobtrusive vertical compacting folds. Written diagonally across the center, is the notation "Canceled June 11, 1915, Issued through error", which is followed by the signature of a secretary.

1915 was a big year for the Red Sox. In his first full MLB season, "Babe" Ruth hit .315, while going 18-8 for the Sox as a pitcher, A stellar 101-50 regular season record was topped off with a triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1915 World Series, which saw Ruth make his first postseason appearance.
