Description

The 1948 Clark Griffith Day was held on August 17, 1948, at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C.. While the annual tradition often included a formal dinner, the 1948 event was primarily distinguished by a massive pre-game ceremony and a "tribute game" to honor Clark Griffith for his 60 years in baseball.

The Tribute Game: The Washington Senators played against the New York Yankees. Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the Yankees defeated the Senators 8–1, led by a four-run homer from Tommy Henrich.

Approximately 7-inches in diameter, this “glove” was either an invitation or a table decoration. Made of cork with leather either side, all stitched together, and a “Clark Griffith Day Dinner” circular “baseball” in the center. It appears that these “gloves” (with party information) could be slipped inside the hand opening for the “glove.” This. The inside part of the glove is embossed “Clark Griffith.” This unique piece is in Excellent condition.
