Description

The inaugural issue from one of the many great new titles rolled out by Marvel Comics in 1968 comes up for approval, with the offering of this 5/68 Sub-Mariner #1 issue. A popular antihero appearing in the pages of Marvel Mystery Comics and other Timely titles during the WWII era, the Sub-Mariner went dormant after a 10-issue Atlas run in 1954-1955. His reintroduction came in 1962, when Johnny Storm found him living on the streets of Manhattan as a homeless amnesiac in Fantastic Four #4.

Plenty of guest appearances ensued and in 1965, Subby moved into the Tales to Astonish anthology series as a permanent feature. When Marvel expanded its catalog in 1968, this Sub-Mariner #1 issue was one of the many key issues published during the massive rollout of new titles. A fairly decent example, the offered comic has scored a grade of 6.5, Off-White Pages from CGC. Label notes are "Roy Thomas story, John Buscema and Frank Giacoia art, John Buscema and Sol Brodsky cover. Story continued from Iron Man and Sub-Mariner #1. Origin of Sub-Mariner retold.".
