An expansion era rookie joined Marvel Comics starting lineup, with the publication of this 5/68 Captain Marvel #1 issue. Giddy from the success of the Fantastic Four, Avengers, Spider-Man and their early-1960s contemporaries, Marvel rolled out a considerable number of new titles in 1968, including the Captain Marvel series. Known as Mar-Vell., this powerful Kree warrior needed just a two-issue tryout in the Marvel Super-Heroes anthology series before graduating to his solo title, which enjoyed a sixty-two-issue run over the period 1968-1979. Touted on the front cover as a "Big Premiere Issue!", this nicely preserved comic has merited a 7.0, Off-White to White Pages rating from CGC. Label notes are "Roy Thomas story, Gene Colan and Vince Colletta cover and art. Story continued from Marvel Super-Heroes #13. Kree Sentry appearance.".
