Ferocious heavyweight boxer Sonny Liston makes a menacing appearance, with this 1962 Type I news service photograph. Numerous credits dating as far back as July 25, 1962 are noted on the back of this 8" x 10" photograph, including a Planet News-London copyright. An affixed caption identifies this shot as having been taken at Liston's upstate New York training camp, in preparation for his first of two heavyweight championship bouts with Floyd Patterson, which took place at Comiskey park on September 25, 1962. The intimidating Liston won both fights with Patterson, by delivering first round knockouts. Also seen on the front and back, are editorial and cropping notations. While overall moderate wear is evident, this vintage photograph remains fairly crisp and attractive, with period authentic appeal.
