Description

From the height of the New York Yankees dominant reign over the grand game of baseball, comes this 1955 "Rip" Coleman game-used jersey. A reliever and spot starter, Coleman appeared in the Majors from 1955-1960. This pinstriped home jersey was worn by Coleman during his rookie season, when the Yankees won the American League pennant. In the World Series, the young lefty made one appearance against the Brooklyn Dodgers, surrendering a single run on five hits.

A Spalding factory label is located inside the collar, with an adjacent size 44 tag. Embroidered on the front-left tail, are Coleman's name, and the identification 55-30 for the season of use and Coleman's uniform number. This flannel jersey was obviously repurposed, as evidenced by a number switch on the back. Seen beneath the replacement number 41 patches, are adhesive stains with the outline identified in the accompanying LOA as being the original number 30. Despite a few small moth holes, this classic jersey from a memorable decade remains broadly attractive, with great period authentic appeal.
