Description

A major first occurred with the publication of this 2/40 Timely Comics Marvel Mystery Comics #4 issue. This early Golden Age comic marks the first cover appearance of the Sub-Mariner. Timely got into the superhero game in 1939, when it launched its first ever comic book under the name "Marvel Comics". Beginning with the second issue, this title was rechristened "Marvel Mystery Comics". Along with the Human Torch, the Sub-Mariner made his debut in issue #1. Blessed with cover art by Alex Schomburg, this #4 issue counts as one of the earliest comic books to feature the Atlantean Prince. The cover is a wonder to behold, with Namor throttling a pair of Nazi officers on the deck of their Death Raider vessel. CGC has encapsulated this historically significant comic book in a Restored Grade holder, with a rating of 1.8, Cream to Off-White Pages, Slight (C-1). Label notes are "Right edge of page 1-8 trimmed. Restoration includes: small amount of glue on cover & centerfold, tear seals to cover. Carl Burgos, Paul Gustavson, Al Anders, Bill Everett and Ben Thompson stories and art, Alex Schomburg cover. 1st Sub-Mariner cover. 1st Nazi flag cover.".
