Description

Earl Sande was perhaps the most famous jockey of the 1920s and 30s. He led all jockeys in earnings in 1921, 1923 and 1927. Sande won the Triple Crown in 1930 aboard his famous horse, Gallant Fox. He won the Kentucky Derby three times and the Belmont Stakes five times.

These (11) news service photos document his fame. They are 8x10 or smaller and they include shots of him with Gallant Fox. The most interesting photo in the group shows him astride Jack Dempsey during a radio show with Dempsey acting out the part of his steed. All the photos have extensive notations on the back from the new services, as well as paste-on descriptions. Photos average Very Good to Excellent.
