Description

Circa 1880s cabinet card featuring an unidentified individual in a full-length pose. While there is no identification displaying a name, team, or affiliation for this individual, we believe it represents a cricket player as evidenced by the shape of the bat he is leaning against. In this formal studio photograph, the individual appears in full uniform, which could be consistent with very early baseball teams of the day, but the shoes he is wearing suggest that he is not a baseball player. The studio setting has been created to resemble an outdoor scene, complete with grass on the floor and an ornate backdrop. The photographer's credit "Arthur Winter, 36A Fishergate," is along the base of the cabinet. The reverse is blank. The cabinet presents exceptionally well, with superb photo contrast and clarity. A strip of adhesive residue and paper loss on the reverse would cause this to grade modestly, but it presents as Very Good overall. This is a beautiful 1880s cabinet photograph!
