Description

Negro League legend Satchel Paige makes a welcome appearance, with this signed 1979 cachet. Issued by the gateway Stamp Co., this commemorative piece celebrates Paige's 1971 Hall of Fame induction, on the 40th Anniversary of the Cooperstown museum. Paige is depicted in a multi-image illustration at left, and a brief biographical passage and a 6/12/79 U.S. Post Office cancellation stamp occupy the area at right. Paige (d.1982) has perfectly located his firm signature at center, directly above the Gateway logo.
