Bag a tough autograph, when you claim this Curt Flood single-signed baseball. Today's multi-millionaire ballplayers owe a big debt of gratitude to Flood, who sacrificed the remainder of his lucrative career, when he challenged baseball's reserve clause in 1970.
A fixture in the St. Louis Cardinals outfield for twelve seasons, Flood still had plenty in the tank when he was involved in a multi-player trade to the Philadelphia Phillies, that included Hall of Famer Dick Allen. Flood lost his Supreme Court case and was pretty much black-balled from getting an MLB job, but his sacrifice paved the way for a case involving Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally a few years later, that resulted in free agency.
A lifetime .293 hitter with seven Gold Glove awards to his credit, Flood passed away at the relatively young age of fifty-nine in 1997, leaving his signature in short supply. Display-minded collectors will be pleased with this Flood signed ONL/White baseball, which he has adorned with a very bold sweet spot signature.
