Description

In his detailed LOA, Phil Wood concludes, “I have no issue with vouching for the authenticity of this cap. I've examined several over the years and have owned a few myself. Hard to find, connected to a Hall of Famer and quite collectible.”

This cap, size 7 ½ by Tim McAuliffe Inc., is 100% wool, off-white and of 6 panel construction. The underside of the visor has the number “44.” The cap is in general very good condition with some tiny moth holes at the edge of the seven-stitch visor. The visor itself is dry but uncracked. The letter gives a detailed history of the Kansas City Athletics, and their owner Charlie Finley. It positively identifies the cap as 1966. The A’s only wore the interlocking style in 1966 and 1967, and 1966 is the only season that coach (and Hall of Famer) Luke Appling wore the number “44.” Comes with the Full LOA from Phil Wood.
