A nightmare scene unfolds on the front cover of this 6/41 Timely Comics Captain America Comics #4 issue. Yes, you read that right, this is the fourth issue of the original Captain America run! A triumph of the Golden Age, this harrowing issue sees sidekick Bucky strapped to a bed at the "Horror Hospital", as a ghoulish goon is about to stick a hypodermic needle in his arm. Have no fear, for star-spangled avenger Captain America is coming to Bucky's rescue. While the front cover of this pre-code comic is a nightmare, the back cover is a dream, with a pin-up of Cap and Bucky, that's an early example of the use of a full-page panel in a comic book.
Three hole punches near the spine were examined prior to grading submission, and they pass through the margins of the pages only, without affecting the artwork, or story. This condition has minimal impact of the abundant appeal of this vintage comic book. This statement is supported by the favorable Universal Grade of 3.0, Cream to Off-White Pages, provided by best in the business, CGC.
The creators of this Golden Age comic are an absolute dream team, noted on the CGC grading label, with "Joe Simon and Jack Kirby stories, Jack Kirby, Joe Simon, Al Avison and Al Gabriele art, Alex Schomburg cover. Captain America text story by Stan Lee. Captain America pin-up on back cover. Hypodermic needle cover.".
