Depression era relics from the South Side surface, with this 1930s-1940s Chicago White Sox ephemera selection (3).
Though the White Sox were a "second division" team throughout much of the 1930s-1940s, a 1936 team-signed sheet should generate plenty of interest, as the subjects passed away anywhere from thirty to eighty years ago. Plenty of tough signatures are noted, and the more prominent signers are a couple of Hall of Famers and several high-profile stars, along with Monty Stratton, who lost his leg in a 1938 hunting accident, but came back to play minor league ball from 1946-1953, wearing a prosthetic leg. (25) Generally distinct signatures appear on a sheet of Comiskey Park letterhead, stamp-dated "1936", with: Clint Brown (d.1955), Luke Sewell (d.1987), "Sugar" Cain (d.1975), Luke Appling (HOF, d.1991), Bill Webb (coach, d.1943), Mike Kreevich (d.1994), John Whitehead (d.1964), Italo Chelini (d.1972), Bill Shores (d.1984), Monty Stratton (d.1982), Jo-Jo Morrissey (d.1950), "Mule"Haas (d.1974), Larry Rosenthal (d.1992), Tony Piet (d.1981), Vernon Kennedy (d.1993), Merv Shea (d.1953), Jimmie Dykes (manager, clubhouse signature), "Rip" Radcliff (clubhouse signature), Bill Dietrich (clubhouse), "Zeke" Bonura (d.1987), "Muddy" Ruel (coach, d.1963), Ted Lyons (HOF, d.1986), "Dixie" Walker (d.1982), Jack Hayes (d.1983). Frank Grube (d.1943).
Strong support for your attention is also derived from a rare 1940s 3/4-size pennant VG-EX. This vintage felt flag is decorated with an appliqué featuring a pair of socks over a baseball and crossed bats. Vintage White Sox pennants with a single sock turn up regularly, but you'll have a hard time trying locate another example with two socks.
Rounding out this offering is 1936 R311 Goudey premium, which rates as VG+ due to moderate corner wear, but is otherwise very attractive. This antique premium pictures the 1935 White Sox squad.
