Looking at Mantle's accomplishments during the 1956 season, it's easy to see why this was his favorite summer. He earned his first of three MVP awards, thanks to his Triple Crown winning season. Mantle was also selected for the AL All-Star squad, and he finished the season as a World Series champion. Exacting revenge for a loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers "Boys of Summer" in the 1955 World Series, the New York Yankees battled to a win in the 1956 Fall Classic. Going the full seven games, this hard-fought World Series was highlighted by Don Larsen's perfect game. Mantle made a thrilling catch to preserve Larsen's masterpiece, and he belted the only home run of the game!
