Description

Atlanta Braves All-Stars are glorified in art, with these (2) 1982-1983 Tommy McDonald Enterprises framed portraits. An NFL Hall of Famer, Tommy McDonald owned and operated an art studio during his post-playing career. Though the artwork was performed by staff members, McDonald signed the paintings himself, in name of his art company. A heavy-hitting slugger for the Braves, Horner belted 32 homers in 1982 and was named an NL All-Star that season. Braves teammate Benedict made the NL All-Star squad in 1981, largely for his defensive skills. He was named an NL All-Star a second time in 1983, when he batted a career high .298. Both Braves All-Stars are reverently rendered in oil on board, in these captivating portraits. The Horner piece is framed to overall dimensions of 15-1/2” x 18-1/2”, and the Benedict piece is framed to overall dimensions of 16” x 19”. These vintage portraits present handsomely, with vibrant colors, though the Horner piece bears a fairly unobtrusive dotted streak of foreign matter near the bottom-right corner. McDonald has signed both pieces in identical fashion, as “T. McDonald”.
