Description

A young Joe Louis is pictured on this 3 ¾ x 5 ½ advertising card from the “Wittone” company. Not much is known about Whittone, but it is typical of companies that sold “Health Tonics” in the early 20th century. However, the back of the card does state Wittone “contains no alcohol, narcotics or habit-forming drugs.”

Joe Louis dominated the heavyweight division from 1937 to 1950, victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses, a record for all weight classes and the longest single reign as champion of any boxer in history. Because the card says “Champion Joe Louis” beneath the photo of the young “Brown Bomber,” it makes it circa 1940. The card is in Very Good to Excellent condition.
