Vince Lombardi's exemplary career, and his life, would end soon after he signed this Washington Redskins era photograph. Though coach Lombardi was a blessing to the Green Bay Packers and their devoted fans, delivering them five championship seasons during the 1960s, he was freed up for the 1969 season so he could take a job with the Redskins. Lombardi was appointed head coach and executive vice president of the 'Skins, with a 5% ownership kicker as part of his deal. A genuine football genius if there ever was one, Lombardi led Washington to its first winning season since 1955. Tragically he succumbed to illness in 1970, a terrible loss for the football world. This 8" x 10" black and white glossy photograph from Lombardi's brief tenure with the Redskins reports in pleasing condition. Always one to make a point, Lombardi signed and personalized this photograph in firm fashion. A stamp on the reverse side dated February 20, 1960 credits this portrait to photographer Nate Fine.
