Green Bay Packers legend Vince Lombardi had just finished his first season as an NFL head coach two days earlier, when he signed the offered check on December 15, 1959. Lombardi was hired to reverse the fortunes of the Green Bay franchise starting with the 1959 season, in the dual roles of head coach and general manager. It was in his capacity as GM that he signed this Green Bay Packers team check, which is made to running back Thomas Moore. Lombardi selected Moore 5th overall in the 1960 NFL Draft, which was held in-season, on November 30, 1959 at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia, while Lombardi still had two games to play during his NFL rookie season as a head coach. Drawn on the Kellogg Citizens National Bank of Green Bay, this check is also signed by Packers president Dominic Olejniczak on the front, and by payee Moore on the back. All three signatures are distinct examples, and the check presents handsomely.
