This $1 coin type is highly favored by collectors, and coins bearing the "CC" Carson City mint mark are especially prized. This well-struck example shows pleasing luster and nice detail definition, attributes which have earned it a favorable MS63 grade from NGC. Established in the "Old West" to readily turn silver coming out of the Comstock Lode into coins, the historic Carson City Mint generally produced coins in small quantities, relative to the numbers struck at the main Mint branch in Philadelphia. This always in-demand 1885-CC dollar has an original mintage of 228,000 pieces, and the estimated survival rate is 174,250 coins in all grades.
