Brooks Robinson won more Gold Gloves, “A-Rod” hit for bigger (albeit tainted) numbers, and George Brett was a blessing from the baseball gods. But when it comes to a model for third basemen, Mike Schmidt wins out. Playing his entire MLB career for the Philadelphia Phillies, Schmidt put together an impressive resume with three NL MVP awards, 12 All-Star Game selections, eight NL Home Run crowns, 10 Gold Gloves, six Silver Slugger awards, and a World Series championship in 1980. Some of Schmidt’s mighty blows were struck with the offered 1982 game-used bat. As Schmidt was under contract with Adirondack for bats, he disguised this Worth model 5001-W-8 Tennessee Thumper by adding a stripe of red tape on the upper handle so, to the TV cameras, it looked like he was wielding an Adirondack model. This disguise serves to confirm the authentic use by the Phillies Hall of Famer. Heavy use is readily noted all over with contact marks, a handle crack, grain swelling, baseball stitch impressions, tape, and other gripping aids, adding up to a grade of PSA/DNA (GU 8.5). Swing for the fences to claim this important game-used bat. Full LOA from John Taube-PSA/DNA. Opening Bid $1,000.
