Lot # 2258: 1980s Jack Kirby Professor Flash-Hat Character Concept Sketch from the Ruby-Spears Archive

Jack Kirby's remarkable talent is instantly recognizable in this 1980s Professor Flash-Hat character concept sketch. This 11" x 17" page comes from the Ruby-Spears Enterprises archive. Joe Ruby and Ken Spears were working at ABC, when they were tasked with creating animated TV shows to compete with Hanna-Barbera's dominance of Saturday morning programming. Kirby was brought it to work on the show Thundarr the Barbarian, and also to flesh out ideas to pitch to television networks. The great majority of his drawings from this period, including the offered sketch, were never seen by the public until they started hitting the market in the 2020s. This dynamic concept sketch sees the spectacled professor wielding a top hat that emits a power ray, blasting into a chamber at right. The character is named at bottom-left, though professor is misspelled "Proffesor". This crisp page presents in excellent condition, well-suited for prominent display.
