Lot # 1375: 1915-1952 Braves Field Original Stadium Seat Double with Rare B.N.L.C. Logo End - Exceedingly Rare

A rescue mission is about to pay off big for one determined collector, with the claiming of this 1915-1952 Braves Field original stadium seat double. Considered exceedingly rare, this vintage seat section is reported as being salvaged from the basement of the Boston Garden arena. When the Boston Braves (current Atlanta Braves) relocated west to Milwaukee for the 1953 season, the Garden bought up some of the seats from Braves Field prior to demolition and repurposed a number of them for Garden use. Those used for arena seating were reportedly painted yellow, while other seats remained in basement storage, as a source of spare parts. Measuring 41" across x 31-1/2" high x 14" deep, this seat pair is from the Boston Garden basement stash, purchased from Boston Field. The seats are numbered 5 and 6, and the left end iron armrest has a B.C.N.L. round logo stenciled with number 22. The initials on this rare logo piece stand for Boston National League Club. Obviously seats 5 and 6 were not at the end of a row, and this super-rare end piece was added at some point after rescue, presumably from the same stash. This notion is supported by the presence of three later date bolts used to add this piece on. The lower section of this iron end piece features a lattice design, with what what appears to a catcher's mitt on a diamond at center. The wood slats and the armrest toppers have been lightly sanded in preparation for a repainting, that thankfully never occurred. The result is a pleasing patina-like finish, with some natural wood tone showing through the original green paint. Signs of authentic use/wear include scattered gouges and abrasions on the wood sections, and age-appropriate oxidation on the metal frame. Bolted to a wood base for freestanding display, these seats remain sturdy and broadly appealing, and the extreme rarity of the initialed end piece makes the pair a tremendous prize for stadium seat specialists.
