Lot # 2243: Vintage Popy Gaiking Mekarobo Robot in Original Box - Rare

Robot Technology is at your command, when you take control of this vintage Popy Gaiking Mekarobo toy robot in original factory box. A subsidiary of Bandai, Popy turned out an impressive and expensive line of robot figures based on Japanese Anime shows during the 1970s and early 1980s. Sort of a cross between a Samurai, a Transformer and Mr. Potato Head, this battery operated Mekarobo figure can be configured in vertical and horizontal formats, as seen on the accompanying Japanese language instructions sheet, and multiple illustrations pictured on the side panels of the box lid. The overall appearance is fantastic, with bright, clean parts showing minimal wear. It must noted that two parts are absent, one of the wheels from the left foot and the red wings panel for the back; and the figure has not been tested with batteries. The box is attractive, with the windowpane intact, but the left side panel suffers a 3" wide section of loss. Regarded as quite scarce, this exceptional piece is a visual delight.
