Lot # 2244: Vintage Popy Jumbo Machinder UFO Robo Grendizer (24") with Accessories & Original Box - Extremely Rare

From the Japanese Anime scene with much love, comes this 1970s Popy Jumbo Machinder UFO Robo Grendizer action figure in original factory box. Looking like a cross between a Samurai and Optimus Prime, this towering colossus stands 24” tall, on roller skate feet. If this colorful Grendizer character looks familiar to you, it’s because the Jumbo Machinder series was released in the USA by Mattel, as the Shogun Warriors. Included accessories are a double-headed battle axe, one missile, two throwing stars and an interchangeable gauntlet numbered ZZ-3. The two-piece battle axe resides in the shoulders and can be used in both hand openings as separate pieces or connected as one piece in one or both hands. The right fist actually fires off when a button further up on the arm is pressed. This fist can be replaced by the gauntlet, which is capable of firing up to five missiles. The lone missile present is perched in a slot on the left shoulder. Use of the stars is shrouded in mystery. Though obviously played with, this magnificent space robot presents handsomely, with just minor touches of wear. Labeled in Japanese language, the box shows moderate all over wear, while retaining a decent shape. A price sticker on the bottom end panel is priced at $10.95. Illustrations on the left side panel indicate the Robo Grendizer’s features and abilities in Japanese, and a logo at the bottom-left corner of the lid panel reads “ST P2310029”.
