Description

The popular Hartland Plastics baseball statue series is well-represented with this near-complete set (16/18). Issued during the period 1958-1962, these shelf-sized icons rank among the most treasured of sports figures. While nearly all legends in this set were active during the period of original production, the maker also made room for the one and only "Babe" Ruth. Dynamic poses are the norm in this exciting series, and the depictions of the subjects are realisitic in detail. Condition is generally pleasing, with the offered figures ranging Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt+. All nine sluggers designed to hold bats are accompanied by bats, with some orignal models, and some that appear to be replacements. Also present is a catcher's mask for the "Yogi" Berra statue. The uniforms shade from off-white to dark cream, the accents show decent to strong integrity, and several pieces have light traces of adhesive residue on the soles of the shoes.

Featured are: "Babe" Ruth with bat, Willie Mays making a basket catch, Hank Aaron "high step version" with bat (does not stand feely), Mickey Mantle with bat (black streaks on forearms), Ted Williams with bat (adhesive residue on top hand), Harmon Killebrew on home plate base with bat, Stan Musial with bat, Ernie Banks with bat, "Duke" Snider with bat, Don Drysdale following through on pitching rubber base, Eddie Mathews throwing a baseball, Nellie Fox throwing a baseball, Warren Spahn winding up for pitch, "Yogi" Berra tracking a pop-up with mask, Luis Aparicio making a catch (toe-plate base is absent, does not stand freely), and "Rocky" Colavito on toe-plate base with bat (does not stand freely).

The two absent figures are Roger Maris and Dick Groat. The elusive Groat figure is offered seperatley in this auction.
