A scarce treasure surfaces, with the presentation of this 1940 Gillette World Series Special Tech Razor. Housed in its original factory box, this antique shaving device is finished with an outer sleeve featuring photograph endorsements by five period MLB stars. Pictured on the top of the sleeve next to the legend “World Series Special”, are Benny McCoy, Johnny Mize and “Pepper” Martin, while “Red” Rolfe and “Bucky” Walters are seen on side panels. Decorating the bottom panel of the sleeve are pennant graphics for the American and National League champions. The sleeve’s bottom and north side panels are detached, and the photo of Walters suffers some loss, though his face remains visible from the eyebrows down. The inner box lid is complete, though the corners of the side panels are separated. A section comprised of a long side panel, and a short side panel have detached from the box bottom tray, and the interior compartment is separated into two pieces. This compartment houses a safety razor loaded with a sharp blade (handle with caution), and a blade package with the left end flap absent. Housed in the package are one sealed blade and one blade with inner wrapper only. The safety razor is resistant to opening. Despite the considerable attrition, scarcity and period authentic display appeal with a World Series tie-in, make this vintage product a select target.
