A quintet of Hall of Famers set the lure for this 1947 Cleveland Indians team-signed baseball. It was a “first division” finish for this 1947 squad, and the core players would go on to lead the charge to a World Series championship for the Indians in 1948. Player-manager Lou Boudreau was the guiding light, while ace Bob Feller anchored the pitching staff. Though the labeling stamps on this OAL/Harridge baseball are considerably faded, the surface remains a clean canvass to showcase the (16) total signatures, which are generally distinct.
Featured subjects are:
Sweet spot: Lou Boudreau (HOF, player-manager), Bill McKechnie (HOF, coach, d.1965);
North panel: Ken Keltner, George Metkovich, Mel Harder, Les Willias;
South panel: Bob Feller (HOF), “Red” Embree, Les Fleming;
East panel: Steve Gromek, Pat Seerey (d.1986);
West panel: Al Lopez (HOF), Don Black (d.1959), Oscar Melillo (coach, d.1963), Hank Edwards, Tris Speaker (HOF, coach, d.1958).
Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
