Witness a remarkable changing of the guard, with the viewing of this Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski dual-signed news service photograph. With time off for military service during WII and the Korean War, Williams manned the left field position for the Boston Red Sox from 1939-1960. It was the plate that Williams truly shined, turning in a career .344 batting mark, and an MLB record .482 career on-base percentage. While filling Williams' shoes upon his retirement at the end of the 1960 season was impossible, the Sox exceeded expectations when they brought in "Yaz" to play left beginning in 1961.
These legendary Hall of Famers have provided blue fiber-tip marker signatures over their corresponding images, that are as potent as their mighty swings. Moderate edge wear, including a small tear at top, can easily be matted over, and the 7-1/2" x 11" photograph is otherwise appealing. The caption at bottom reports that coach Williams is seen showing pupil Yastrzemski the proper way to grip his bat. An AP wirephoto credit and the date 1961 appear in the bottom line of the text.
