Description

A crowning achievement is baseball history in commemorated with this 1953 New York Yankees team-signed baseball. Manned with a roster of solid contributors top-to-bottom, this ’53 Yankees team set a still standing record for dynasties, by winning the last of five consecutive World Series championships spanning the period 1949-1953. A half-dozen Hall of Famers are counted among the (21) signatures adorning this ONL/Giles baseball, including wizened manager “Casey” Stengel, who was at the helm throughout all five championship seasons. The signatures are light to moderately faded, though all remain readily discernible. The subjects are all deceased, including prime collecting targets Stengel, Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin and Bill Dickey.

Featured subjects are:

Sweet spot: “Casey” Stengel (HOF, manager, d.1975);

North panel: Bill Renna, Don Bollweg, Ray Scarborough (d.1982), Jim McDonald, Andy Carey;

South panel: Phil Rizzuto (HOF), Mickey Mantle (HOF, d.1995), Ralph Houk, Billy Martin (d.1989), Gene Woodling, Bill Dickey (HOF, coach, d.1993);

East panel: Ed Lopat, Bill Miller, Johnny Mize (HOF), Ewell Blackwell, “Whitey” Ford (HOF), Irv Noren;

West panel: Johnny Schmitz, Jim Brideweser, Vic Raschi.
