Description

A scarce signature surfaces, with the presentation of this William D. Eckert signed index card. Upon retiring as an Air Force Lieutenant General in 1961, Eckert entered the business world and in 1965 he became the 4th commissioner of Major League Baseball, a position he held through 1968. Eckert passed away in 1971, just a few years after his MLB service ended. His relatively short tenure as baseball's head man, and his long-ago demise more than fifty years ago, make his signature a seriously tough acquisition. When found, Eckert's signature typically appears as "W.D. Eckert". There are also a few cases where he has signed as "Bill" or with his West Point intramural football nickname "Spike". In the case of the nicely preserved card offered here, he has signed distinctly as "William D. Eckert". This satisfying full name signature is well-centered on the unlined side of this clean, light-cream card.

BAS has encapsulated this card with an Authentic Autograph designation.
