Cincinnati Reds payroll check issued to outfielder Greasy Neale during the 1920 season in the amount of $173.41. Drawn on the Fifth-Third National Bank of Cincinnati and signed by the team's treasurer, the check is endorsed by Neale on the reverse and features a number of bank cancellation marks. The check displays discoloration along the edges and tiny remnants of clear tape along the top edge from having once been mounted within a display. Notably, Neale was a member of the famed 1919 World Championship team, which defeated the Chicago White Sox amid the "Black Sox" scandal to win the franchise's first title. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and spent time as a head coach in the National Football League following his baseball career. This is one of an exceptional grouping of scarce 1920 Reds payroll checks offered within this auction. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
