The NBA's first superstar bounds into view, with this George Mikan single-signed basketball. Mikan's career actually began with play in both the NBL and BAA, and he was at his peak when the two leagues merged to become the NBA in 1949. A dominant, towering force at 6'10", in an age when they didn't grow many that big, Mikan anchored the Minneapolis Lakers at the center position from 1947-1954, and 1956, winning a total of six NBL/BAA/NBA championships. He also won the NBL championship as a rookie, with the Chicago American Gears during the 1946-1947 season. Befitting his stature, Mikan has signed this like-new Spalding Official NBA basketball in big and bold fashion, by means of a silver paint pen. In recognition of his tremendous talent, Mikan was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the 1959 inaugural class.
